Long before Gal Gadot landed the coveted job of playing Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel, many fans had former mixed martial artist Gina Carano in mind for the Amazonian princess. After all, she looks the part, and could easily snap men in half without breaking a sweat.

In a recent interview with Toronto Sun, Carano weighed in on the controversial casting decision, and claims that she was never actually approached for the part in Batman vs. Superman:

“[The rumors] started about four or five years ago, even before Haywire people were saying stuff like that. I was never approached, and I don’t know if I was considered.”

As for Gadot landing the role? She seems confident that her Fast and Furious 6 co-star will do a good job, and doesn’t see her physical appearance or fitness as an issue.

“I worked with her on Fast & Furious 6, and she’s amazing. Such a great person with such a solidness in her character, so I’m very excited for her to do that.

“I think people have an idea what they consider Wonder Woman. I definitely know [Gadot] has been training and there’s so much more that goes into being a strong female character. I think people have their own idea, but I always like the underdog, I’m always rooting for the underdog. If the world says you can’t do something, I couldn’t care less because that’s not how anybody should live their lives.”

So, there we have it. Another name to cross off the list of once-rumored actresses who were never actually up for the role. A similar thing happened with Bryan Cranston, who many assumed was up for the role of Lex Luther, but was actually never approached for it.

Tell us, do you agree with what Carano had to say about Gadot’s casting and physical shape? Or do you still think she was a poor choice to play the Amazonian warrior in Batman vs. Superman? Let us know in the comments below.
