George Lucas Won’t Choose Star Wars 2015 Director

It really is the end of the saga for George Lucas, who recently stunned the world when he sold LucasFilm to Disney for $4 billion. And now the 68-year-old billionaire and, uh, Red Tails producer has announced that he won't help to pick a new director for the upcoming trilogy (set to kick-off in 2015). In the words of Jar-Jar Binks (and in a reference that absolutely nobody will enjoy), "Phoo-eee!"

Speaking out recently, Lucas said that he’s given Star Wars creative control over to Kathleen Kennedy, who will oversee all the important decisions with regards to who will get to helm the new series of films. With some help from the immortal spirit and ghost of Walt Disney, of course.

“She’s more than capable of taking it and making it better than I did,” Lucas said. He also added that he’s “ready to move on to bigger and better things,” which presumably means that he wants to focus on cheaper movies that don’t have lasers and/or robots in them.

As for the new choice of director, perhaps Kennedy will stun the world all over again and hire… George Lucas. Or somebody else called George Lucas – albeit without all the beard and flannel – just to confuse the hell out of everybody. No?

Just hire Brad Bird, then, all right?
