For their second effort on the small screen, the studio is taking an already fan-favorite supporting character from the MCU and giving her the spotlight. And, by setting it in the past, Marvel can still have the show tie-in with their films without having to worry about keeping up with the current MCU, which should prove to be very beneficial. From the creator of AMC’s Breaking Bad comes Better Call Saul, a prequel of sorts to AMC’s hit show that features the titular lawyer in his early days. With several Breaking Bad supporting characters making a return here, and possible cameos from both Walt and Jesse on the cards, fans of Heisenberg would be foolish to miss this one. Though this television adaptation likely won’t hit quite the same heights as its filmic predecessor did, 12 Monkeys is arriving with a ton of buzz. Based on Terry Gilliam’s classic sci-fi film of the same name, SyFy is promising a series that while it may harken back to the original, will still give us something new and fresh to sink our teeth into. As the first of Marvel’s Netflix series, all eyes are on Daredevil to see if it can deliver or not, especially after the failed film attempt back in 2003. Taking the character back to his dark roots, the series looks to explore a more grounded version of the Man Without Fear, one which will be rooted in the noirish criminal underbelly of New York City, specifically the corrupt Hell’s Kitchen area, painting a grittier picture than we’ve ever seen from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though you wouldn’t be wrong to have written off M. Night Shayamalan at this point, his upcoming venture into television, Wayward Pines, certainly has our attention. Starring Matt Dillon in what looks to be a Twin Peaks-esque mystery that’s sure to spark chatter around the water cooler, Wayward Pines has us intrigued with its eerie tone and will no doubt keep us guessing and on the edge of our seats once it hits the air. Being billed as a “dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin,” Jonathan Nolan’s upcoming HBO series is definitely one to watch out for. Based on Michael Crichton’s acclaimed novel, and starring Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld promises to deliver a thought-provoking look at a futuristic world in a series that Nolan calls “subversive, ambitious and fucked up.” I’m sold.
