Even with only a teaser trailer and Super Bowl spot under its belt so far, you could say that the Avengers: Infinity War marketing campaign is off to a smashing start. After all, both previews were perfectly edited and offered up thrilling looks at what’s sure to be 2018’s biggest film. Not to mention they both contained several instantly iconic moments that still have fans talking.
But with all that now out of the way, the question remains: when will the studio drop the first, full-length trailer for Infinity War? With the May 4th release date getting closer, it’s gotta be sometime soon, but given that nothing will be arriving this weekend with Black Panther, people are starting to get anxious – and understandably so. Unfortunately, Marvel’s been keeping quiet on their plans, but the folks over at Screen Rant have put on their thinking caps and believe we may get some more footage next month.
The outlet speculates that the full trailer will tie-in with Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, which hits theaters on March 9th. Not only would it make sense to attach the preview to that film in hopes of drawing in bigger crowds, but looking to the past, March seems like a good guess.
If you recall, the final trailer for Age of Ultron dropped on March 4th, 2015, while Civil War saw a new preview on March 9th, 2016. Not to mention that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, also a May release, debuted its final trailer on February 28th.
With all that in mind, Screen Rant points to either February 27/28 or March 6/7 as for when we’ll see the next bit of footage from Infinity War. As for where it’ll appear, that remains to be seen, but a premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live! is certainly a possibility, as is Marvel tying it into a big sports game on ESPN. Right now, we can’t say for sure, but we do agree with Screen Rant in that it’ll probably be with us next month. And that’s hugely exciting.
After all, Marvel’s marketing campaign is firing on all cylinders right now. It’s a hard-wired machine, and even as the MCU nears its 10th birthday, the studio continues to conjure up one huge success after another. With that in mind, surely Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming blockbuster will enter the box office pantheon later this year? $2 billion isn’t exactly out of reach, though it would take something truly special to dethrone the long-time king: Avatar.
Either way, we’ll begin to form a clearer picture of how Avengers: Infinity War is performing on May 4th.
