Could Ralph Fiennes be appointed as ringleader of a new, much older circle of Kingsmen?
That’s the latest casting tidbit to emerge from That Hashtag Show, which claims that Fiennes, star of Harry Potter and The Grand Budapest Hotel, is currently high on Fox’s wishlist for Kingsman 3.
From what we understand, Matthew Vaughn and long-time collaborator Jane Goldman are already hard at work on the film’s story, which is said to mine inspiration from The Great Game by swinging the door open to an elderly (and elite) pantheon of Kinsgmen, along with a young and cocksure newcomer in Conrad.
The latter’s addition will surely lead to some fireworks between him and Eggsy (Taron Egerton), though this description from THS hints that Conrad may not be the brightest bulb.
The young, cocky and charming son of a British Duke, Conrad is eager to find a way to serve his country during World War I…and perhaps the Kingsman offer him just that opportunity.
And so, after paying a visit to The Golden Circle last year, it’s clear Eggsy’s next big-screen adventure lies elsewhere. This raises the potentially troubling question of whether Fox will reserve space for the likes of Channing Tatum (Agent Tequila), Halle Berry (Agent Whiskey) and Jeff Bridges (Champagne) to return in the not-so-distant future, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on this action sequel as things begin to fall into place.
The Powers That Be will roll the dice on Kingsman 3 this coming January when filming is expected to begin in the United Kingdom. And while the impending Disney-Fox merger has raised question marks over Eggsy’s future, Bob Iger, CEO of the Mouse House, recently voiced his desire to continue the Kingsman franchise well beyond 2019.
