The Flash Gets A Solo Film For 2018, With Ezra Miller In The Lead Role

Amongst the handful of DC bombshell announcements today was the news that Ezra Miller had been cast as The Flash, with the character getting his own solo outing in 2018 and presumably joining the Justice League film as well, which we now know will be directed by Zack Snyder. This piece of casting might disappoint some as it means that the DC TV Universe will be separate from the film one (as Grant Gustin plays the character on television), but it's still pretty exciting stuff.

DC’s master plan is starting to come together now, with news of several other characters getting the solo outing treatment (Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg) as well, and of course, the announcement of the Justice League film being split into two parts and arriving in 2017 and 2019, respectively. As for how The Flash will factor into all this, early reports say that he’ll have a cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which seems like the most probable option. However, this has yet to be confirmed by the studio and as of now, we can only speculate.

What is confirmed, though, is that Miller will be playing the Scarlet Speedster, and as a big fan of the actor, I couldn’t be happier about this choice. Although I never pictured him in a superhero role, I think he’s a tremendously talented individual and given his fantastic work in films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower and We Need to Talk About Kevin, I’m rather excited to see how he handles himself in the DC universe.
