The First Teaser Trailer For Boba Fett’s Star Wars Spinoff Was Supposed To Be Shown In 2015

Before 2015's Star Wars Celebration, Josh Trank was abruptly removed from a panel due to "illness." At that point, we knew that he had signed up to take the helm of one of Lucasfilm's Anthology movies, but it was later revealed that producer Simon Kinberg had lobbied for him to no longer direct the project due to his erratic behaviour on the set of Fantastic Four.

Before 2015’s Star Wars Celebration, Josh Trank was abruptly removed from a panel due to “illness.” At that point, we knew that he’d signed up to take the helm of one of Lucasfilm’s Anthology movies, but it was later revealed that producer Simon Kinberg had lobbied for him to no longer direct the project due to his erratic behaviour on the set of Fantastic Four. As a result, the film – which was widely believed to revolve around Boba Fett – was replaced by the 2018 Han Solo spinoff, and it’s thought that it will instead be released in 2020 with a new director.

Interestingly, it sounds like Boba Fett was even further along than we thought. According to Entertainment Weekly, it came so close to being officially announced that Lucasfilm had prepared a teaser reel (similar to the one they debuted at the event for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) to show off to fans and make the movie 100% official.

It would be pretty amazing to actually get to see what the studio had planned, but depending on how much work Trank put into Boba Fett, there’s a chance it’ll never see the light of day. With any luck, the spinoff will still happen though, and as of right now, the studio has yet to pencil in an Anthology movie for 2020 – so who knows?

While many Star Wars fans love the fact that Boba Fett has such a mysterious past, we still think it would be a lot of fun to delve into that somewhere down the line. As such, we’ll remain hopeful that one day, the proposed spinoff will come to fruition.
