It would appear that anywhere Arthur Curry goes, Billy Batson is sure to follow, and vice versa.
Last month, Shazam himself, Zachery Levi, shared the first (unofficial) look at his titular superhero. The very next day, promo art on display at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo revealed a new shot of Aquaman from his upcoming solo feature. Funnily enough, both pics were snagged from the same advertisement, as you can clearly make out part of the Aquatic Ace’s arm in the bottom righthand corner in Levi’s portion, but I digress.
Late last week, director James Wan confirmed via Twitter that the very first trailer for his subaquatic superhero feature would premiere during San Diego Comic-Con next month. Not to be outdone, we’re now getting wind that Shazam! will also premiere its first preview there. Twitter user @Kellvin_Chavez stated as much late this afternoon, saying “just got word that the Shazam! trailer will make its debut at this year’s SDCC.”
Of course, it isn’t entirely surprising that Warner Bros. will opt to screen the first footage of Shazam! in Hall H next month. With Aquaman scheduled for a December 21st release later this year, it’s the next flick on the docket. And considering that the studio debuted the first look at Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice during the same festivities way back in 2013 – which was two years before its release, mind you – we’re well within range.
Eyeing an April 5th, 2019 release date, Shazam! will tell the story of the teenage boy Billy Batson (portrayed by Asher Angel), who can transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi) using the titular magic word, and as soon as we’ve got confirmation on that trailer, we’ll be sure to let you know.
