The world premiere of Oppenheimer took place in Paris, and audiences were blown away by the Christopher Nolan‘s latest work. While official reviews haven’t made their way to the film’s Rotten Tomatoes page, early reactions for this summer blockbuster claim that it is a must-watch for those who enjoy cinema.
Critics on social media stated that the movie’s three-hour runtime is “dense.” Yet, it left many stunned due to the scale of the film’s storytelling and characters. Meanwhile, others praised Oppenheimer for the actors’ performances and how it’s a “truthful” and “concise” depiction of one of America’s greatest scientists.
Audiences were also impressed by the amount of effort that has been put into making Oppenheimer as big as it is. Critics also urged fans to consider watching this film on a huge IMAX screen if possible, claiming that they will not regret it. They also note that this isn’t like Nolan’s previous films like Dunkirk or Tenet since he was much more daring during the film’s production.
Collider reported that the filming for Oppenheimer pushed the limits of IMAX film projectors since the film almost doesn’t fit. Oppenheimer was shot using large format film stock, which is a combination of IMAX 65mm and Panavision 65mm. Universal Studios released a behind-the-scenes featurette the day before the premiere, where Nolan and his team recreated some of the particle effects using a variety of light and camera techniques since they didn’t want to rely on CGI.
Oppenheimer is an American biopic about Robert J. Oppenheimer, the man behind the creation of the atomic bomb. This Nolan blockbuster features a massive A-list ensemble, starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, and Florence Pugh. This summer blockbuster will compete against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, as both films will be released on the same day, July 21, 2023.
