Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them doesn’t seem to have made as much of an impact on pop culture as the Harry Potter films, but the Wizarding World spinoff from J.K. Rowling and director David Yates was still a humongous success, earning over $800 million worldwide. With the sequel due out next year, Warner Bros. are just starting to dip their toes into publicizing it and we couldn’t be more excited.
The first tease of the movie was recently shared on the official Fantastic Beasts Twitter account and it features a look at the Ministry of Magic permit file for Eddie Redmayne’s kooky magizooloist Newt Scamander. Unfortunately for him, his application to travel has been denied. Apparently, he was “uncooperative and evasive” when asked for the reasons for his last trip abroad.

It’s no wonder that Scamander is reluctant to tell the Ministry about the events of his last vacation. In the first movie, Newt came to New York to release a Thunderbird back into the wild. Along the way, he got in trouble with the MACUSA (the US equivalent of the Ministry) due to bringing a menagerie of exotic magical creatures into the country hidden inside his suitcase. Eventually, though, he managed to help them bring down renowned dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), who was in disguise as auror Percival Graves (Colin Farrell).
We know the lack of a permit won’t stop him, though, as Newt is set to get himself into more danger in the sequel. Fantastic Beasts 2 will see him encounter a young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), and will expand on the future Hogwarts headmaster’s rivalry with his former best friend Grindelwald. Ezra Miller’s powerful Obscurial Credence Barebones will be back, too, likely to be used as a weapon by Depp’s evil wizard. Grindelwald will also find himself a new henchman named Krall, played by Iron Fist‘s David Sakurai.
That’s all we’ve got to go on for now, but expect to learn more about Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 ahead of the movie’s release in cinemas on November 16th, 2018.
