It’s strange to think that for all drama there was over the first Avengers: Endgame trailer arriving later than expected, we still haven’t got a teaser for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, despite Neil Marshall’s R-rated superhero movie coming out a couple of weeks prior.
That being said, it doesn’t look like we have much longer to wait before we finally get some official footage from the Dark Horse Comics adaptation, with Trailer Track recently reporting that the preview has just been rated by Alberta Film Ratings, and should be going online some time in the next week to tie in with the release of Aquaman.
You might say it’s about time, seeing how the attendees of New York Comic Con got to watch a trailer as far back as October, with the preview even managing to leak onto the web. And while the fans may still miss the presence of Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman, the reactions to that early footage suggests that Marshall and his star David Harbour will have no problem generating hype for their fresh take on the property.
Earlier this month, we even heard a positive report from the film’s first test screening, teasing a work that was “incredibly violent” and with a strong cast. Ian McShane of John Wick fame in particular was singled out as a highlight, though there were also some kind words for Harbour himself.
The new line-up may take some getting used to, but based on all we’ve seen so far, Marshall and Harbour will be offering a very different take from what we’ve seen before on Hellboy and the monster-filled world he occupies. Hopefully this impending trailer will make it all the clearer how the reboot will separate itself from the del Toro era, but in the meantime, it’s evident that a lot of fans are pumped enough already for the film’s release on April 12th, 2019.
