Valentine’s Day really is a special time of year for the Merc With a Mouth.
Back in 2016, Tim Miller’s Deadpool blew the hinges off the February box office on its journey to a $783 million gross, and now, 20th Century Fox is calling up its lucky (and romantic!) charm for the upcoming follow-up.
According to Collider, the first full-length trailer for Deadpool 2 will be released online on February 14th, before it’s then attached to play in front of Marvel’s Black Panther two days later. Prepare the chimichangas!
Because after Bob Ross-inspired teaser videos and an entire poster dedicated to Norman Rockwell, the first Deadpool 2 trailer is arguably long overdue – particularly now that the David Leitch-directed sequel has relocated to May 18th, thereby getting the jump on Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th).
Exactly what we can expect from next month’s showcase is up for question, though chances are we’ll get some clue about the sequel’s subtitle. Rumor has it that Fox’s follow-up will release as The Second Coming – how very fitting – but there’s still no official word from the Powers That Be.
Speaking of which, this decision to dovetail Deadpool 2 with Marvel’s Black Panther could be a sign of things to come, as Disney is officially in the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox and its entertainment assets. In the long run, it’ll allow the Merc and T’Challa to inhabit the same cinematic universe. And that’s merely scratching the surface.
Also starring Zazie Beetz (Domino), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Julian Dennison (?), Morena Baccarin (Copycat) and Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin as the time-traveling bandit known as Cable, the untitled Deadpool sequel will hit theaters on May 18th – two weeks earlier than initially expected.
