“I just have one question: when Cap needed help, if I had’ve asked you, would you have come?”
That’s Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) there, discussing Civil War with his newfound partner in crime, Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). Relegated to the sidelines throughout most of Ant-Man, Peyton Reed’s action-packed sequel, aptly titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, sees Lilly’s character graduate to bona fide protagonist, and we now have our first look at Hope doing what she does best.
As promised, Marvel has today rolled out the first full trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp – and it’s a doozy. Featuring the return of the studio’s shrinking superhero, this first-look teaser is brimming with incredible shots, as the titular duo grow and shrink before our very eyes. And yes, Giant-Man is back, as is Michael Peña’s Luis, the fast-talking, scene-stealing star of the original.
Michael Douglas is also returning as the illustrious Hank Pym, who will no doubt be lending a regular-sized helping hand when Scott and Hope launch a search for Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp who slipped into the Quantum Realm long ago.
Here’s a reminder of the sequel’s synopsis, which proves that Ant-Man and the Wasp takes place in the fallout of Civil War:
Ant-Man and the Wasp is a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.
Though it may not have generated the hype of Black Panther – not yet, at least – Ant-Man and the Wasp is perhaps the perfect tonic to Avengers: Infinity War, which has been penciled in for release on May 4th. But once the Russo Brothers’ mega-movie has its time in the sun, Marvel Studios will draw our attention to the caper sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited. July 6th is the date for your diaries, folks.
