It began with a vision; a vision that was initially hatched upon Disney’s $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm and its prized assets. And now, the first piece of the puzzle is ready to fall into place after director J.J. Abrams officially confirmed that he is now in possession of a final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is now mere weeks away from its theatrical release.
Breaking through box office records even before its arrival, anticipation for Abrams’ long-awaited sequel is now beginning to hit fever-pitch, and today’s news of post-production wrapping up ought to send excitement into overdrive.
[zerg]Reflecting on the filmmaking process and his commitment to practical effects, the director was quizzed about his tendency to add lens flare into many of his projects – most notably with Star Trek Into Darkness, which even led to Abrams apologizing for its overuse. How and ever, it would appear that the director has reined in his fondness of lens flare when it comes to Disney’s galaxy far, far away, claiming that The Force Awakens will only include lens flare when it is deemed unavoidable or even necessary.
“The Force Awakens will have some lens flare, but only when it’s unavoidable or necessary,” Abrams promised. “This is not the movie for that. These are not the flares you’re looking for.”
Arriving in tandem with a couple teasers and our very first clip for the movie, it is the latter sizzle reel which sees Rey and Finn make a break for it across the arid plains of Jakku. Perhaps more revealing are the pair of TV spots (see below), showcasing another look at Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron and his squadron of X-Wing pilots, along with a familiar face joining him for the airborne battle.
