Feast On The International Trailer For Park Chan-Wook’s Stoker

Earlier this month the U.S. trailer for Park Chan-Wook’s debut into English-speaking cinema, Stoker, was revealed and blimey, was it creepy. Now the first international trailer has hit the web and it coherently sets the stage for a vampire flick that according to writer Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) is not really a vampire flick. A hint of Let Me In perhaps?

Earlier this month the U.S. trailer for Park Chan-Wook’s debut into English-speaking cinema, Stoker, was revealed and blimey, was it creepy.  Now the first international trailer has hit the web and it coherently sets the stage for a vampire flick that according to writer Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) is not really a vampire flick. A hint of Let Me In perhaps?

The Korean director, who is responsible for the blood-soaked Oldboy, has yanked out compelling performances from the leading cast as evidenced in this trailer. Nicole Kidman appears less vitriolic than the initial footage indicated and is thrust into role of concerned mother. Matthew Goode is creepier than if the twin girls from The Shining took up side gigs as taxidermy enthusiasts, as he and Mia Wasikowska embark on adventures under cover of darkness which include body bags and shovels.

The official film synopsis is primed for some Chan-Wookian plot twist hijinks, check it out below.

After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

This could be a foray into horror-chiller fare for the director and if the trailer is anything to go by let’s hope it’s not his last. As Miller has a prequel already penned,  should Stoker take a bite out of the box office it’s likely we’ll be seeing a follow-up.

We’ll find out if Stoker delivers the chills when it is released March 1st, 2013.
