Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight is going to have his hands full in his first movie on the job, as Matt Reeves’ The Batman is set to feature a whole host of Gotham’s greatest villains. We know that there’ll be at least six or seven from the Caped Crusader’s rogues gallery appearing in the film, with the line-up including Catwoman, Riddler and Two-Face, among others.
In fact, the Penguin is widely reported to be one of the most significant players in the group and whoever’s cast as Oswald Cobblepot could be key to The Batman‘s success. So, it’s no surprise that we’re hearing that Warner Bros. is looking at a wide range of actors to portray the iconic villain. We Got This Covered has previously reported that Josh Gad and Nicholas Hoult are on the studio’s wishlist for the role and now, our source is telling us that Fantastic Four star Toby Kebbell is also being eyed for the Penguin.
This is interesting, as another outlet recently linked Kebbell to Scarecrow in the movie. Though Jonathan Crane isn’t among those currently believed to appear, our intel’s telling us that Kebbell will be involved. It’s possible that Reeves would be keen to work with the British actor again, too, after he played Koba the vicious ape in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He might not have been a standout Doctor Doom in 2015’s FF remake, but his motion capture performance in that film proves he can portray a great villain.
That said, Kebbell would certainly be a left-field choice for this particular character, as he doesn’t much fit the typical look of the Penguin. The 36-year-old could make for a nice counterpart to Pattinson’s Batman, though, who’s of a similar age. And Gotham‘s version, as played by Robin Lord Taylor, showed us that a younger, thinner Cobblepot can definitely work.
Tell us, though, would you mind seeing Kebbell as the Penguin in The Batman? If not, who would be your pick? Let us know in the comments section below.
