A great Parisian adventure is afoot in the all-new image for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, Warner Bros. and David Yates’ magical sequel that’s been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
It’s a controversy that can be traced all the way back to Johnny Depp’s involvement in the Harry Potter prequel, after the Pirates of the Caribbean actor clinched the role of Gellert Grindelwald, arch-enemy and one-time lover of the great Albus Dumbledore.
Since his contentious addition to the cast, David Yates, J.K. Rowling and even Amber Heard have each addressed the elephant in the room, and just last week, Daniel Radcliffe (AKA the Boy Who Lived) broke his silence about Depp’s role and, well, let’s just say the former Potter star didn’t pull any punches.
Whether Johnny Depp truly deserves to be a part of The Crimes of Grindelwald is something we’ll leave to you, but thanks to Warner Bros. (via ComicBook.com), we now have a brand new look at Eddie Redmayne’s returning magizoologist, Newt Scamander. There’s also a close-up of Newt and his Porpentina Goldstein, though we should clarify that this is merely a textless version of a previously-released still.
Aside from Redmayne, Depp and Jude Law (Dumbledore), The Crimes of Grindelwald has filled its cast with Callum Turner’s Theseus Scamander, Zoë Kravitz’s Leta Lestrange, and Claudia Kim’s mysterious Snake Girl. Alien: Covenant‘s Katherine Waterson is poised to reprise the role of Tina Goldstein, while there’s also room in the film’s ranks for Dan Fogler as the whip-smart muggle, Jacob Kowalski.
Filming on Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald initially wrapped back in December, which tells us that it shouldn’t be too long before Warner Bros. is ready to showcase footage from its fantastical Potter prequel. More from J.K. Rowling’s rich world of witchcraft and wizardry when we have it.
