On the back of the recent report that Disney was interested in buying the entertainment divisions of 20th Century Fox, superhero fans went wild as they thought of the implications. Not only could it allow for a DVD release of the original cut of Star Wars: A New Hope, but it could also pave the way for the X-Men – whose rights are owned by Fox – to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is part of the Disney family.
Though a second report claimed that these talks are not moving forward at the moment, that hasn’t stopped people from imagining what an X-Men-filled MCU would be like. For one, YouTuber Salacious Robot has come up with a fan-made version of the Marvel Studios opening that includes some of the biggest names in the X-Men franchise: Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto and, of course, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
The icing on the cake is the use of a cover of the iconic theme from the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series. It’s never been used in any Fox production, but it’s totally possible that Marvel Studios would bring it back. After all, Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s opening featured the classic 1960s Spidey theme and the Iron Man films have referenced the 1990s animated music.
While things like this get us hugely excited for a possible merger between the MCU and the X-Men movieverse, there are potential drawbacks from the two toyboxes becoming one. As Ryan Reynolds pointed out, what would such a venture mean for the likes of Deadpool, whose R-rated humour would surely clash with the House of Mouse’s family-friendly image?
We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out with this business deal, but if anything further should happen, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, though, tell us, what do you think about the possibility of the X-Men crossing over into the MCU? Have your say in the comments section down below!
