It doesn’t matter what the subject matter is, social media will always find a way to turn almost anything into a Marvel vs. DC debate, and the latest to be tarred with the ignominious brush is inevitably the recent arrest of Jonathan Majors.
The Kang the Conqueror actor hasn’t officially been charged with any offenses as of yet, but he is staring at allegations of strangulation, assault and harassment. Naturally, his team has been quick to deny any wrongdoing on the 33 year-old’s part, but there have already been widespread calls for Marvel Studios to immediately recast his role in the franchise.
In another sadly predictable twist, it hasn’t taken long for DCU veteran Ezra Miller to be dragged into the mix, with The Flash star facing some highly-publicized troubles of their own that led to several charges being filed, a couple of courtroom appearances, and ultimately a fine and a promise on the onscreen Scarlet Speedster’s behalf to seek professional help.
It’s an unsavory debate for an unsavory moment, but Twitter has nonetheless been comparing the respective fortunes of Majors and Miller, as everyone expected them to do.
Of course, the most notable difference is that it’s been less than 24 hours since word of Majors’ arrest went public, so it could be a while before we get the entire story laid bare in a public setting. Miller, meanwhile, was paparazzi fodder at the height of their dark period, but it just goes to show that nothing is safe from the glare of the Marvel vs. DC spotlight.
