There’s two months to go before the year is out, and we’ve still got a clutch of big titles scheduled for release within that timeframe. One of the most intriguing is definitely Rob Marshall’s Into The Woods. A live-action spin-off of Stephen Sondheim’s smash musical, it boasts a starry cast that includes some of Hollywood’s biggest hitters. With that in mind, Disney are gearing up the marketing machine for their holiday sing-a-long that’s guaranteed to win over the masses. Yesterday, we were finally given a proper look at Johnny Depp as The Wolf, and today we’ve got a new, full-length featurette.
Considering the flick is based on a musical, it’s difficult to sell that aspect to audiences in advance through posters and stills. Thanks to this latest behind the scenes video though, the dazzling visuals and sharp vocal talents of the cast are finally given a preview.
While it promotes the entire ensemble, for the most part, the clip showcases Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick’s musical stylings. Both actresses have belted out tunes on the big screen before, in Mamma Mia and Pitch Perfect, respectively. Still, it’s fantastic to get a better idea of the overall tone and style of the movie before it opens this Christmas.
Into The Woods opens on December 25th. Check out the plot summary below and the featurette above and let us know what you think.
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.
