There was a lot of talk in the beginning of the year surrounding the rating of The Expendables 2. Chuck Norris wanted to star in a film that didn’t contain vulgar language and this prompted the rumor that the film would be PG-13, which would not only cut out the vulgar language, but would also remove the excessive violence.
It would be a terrible decision to release the film with a PG-13 and that’s why I’m happy to report that earlier today, Sylvester Stallone announced that the film will indeed be rated R.
Craig over at The Stallone Zone issued a short statement telling fans of the film that Stallone himself has confirmed the film’s rating.
“Just received word from Sly today… and I quote
‘After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R.’
That’s right, SZoners. Sly says that Expendables II will be rated R.”
Though the change in rating won’t determine the quality of the film, it should be interesting to see what director Simon West will do with it. I enjoyed the first film for all its goofiness, even if the script wasn’t anything spectacular. Nonetheless, I am excited to see Stallone, Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others all together in one action flick.
The Expendables 2 will release nationwide on August 17, 2012.
