Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon wowed audiences back in 2000 with exhilarating martial arts sequences and a strong story with characters that were never less than compelling. The popularity of that movie has never waned, and now in 2016, Netflix brings us its eagerly awaited sequel, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny.
Taking place 18 years after the original, we find that the martial arts world is in chaos and being fought over by various warrior clans who seek to dominate it. Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh) returns to once again protect the Green Destiny sword and keep it from falling into enemy hands. What unfolds from there is described as a story of “lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption.”
We got to speak with Yeoh recently in Los Angeles at the film’s press day. She is the only main cast member from the original to appear in this sequel, and she hasn’t lost a step. During the course of our discussion, we spoke about what it was like to reprise one of her most famous roles and if being away from the character for over a decade made it easier or harder for her to return.
Check out the interview to hear what she had to say and be sure to catch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny when it arrives on February 26th.
