The undeniable heart and endless humour in Disney’s latest animated adventure, Big Hero 6, comes not in flesh and bone, but what appears to be some kind of malleable rubber. Yes, at the center of this family thriller is Baymax, a rotund robotic healthcare giver that offers the most laughs, entertainment, and maybe a couple tears.
Based on the Marvel comic of the same name, Big Hero 6 takes place in a futuristic hybrid city of San Fransokyo, and Baymax is the creation of young protagonist Hiro Hamada’s genius older brother, Tadashi. When Tadashi is killed in an accident, however, Hiro uses Baymax to help track down those involved, claiming that resolution is the only way to remove grief.
What follows is a beautiful and engaging, albeit often silly lark as Hiro enlists the help of a group of young and savvy tech nerds, who forge themselves into superheroes to fight the menacing terror.
An eager and excited Scott Adsit, who voices Baymax, sat down with me last week during the film’s press day to talk about voicing a robot, the evolution of Baymax, and the colourful, vibrant world that was meticulously created by Disney.
Check it out in the video above and be sure to catch Big Hero 6 when it hits theatres this Friday.
