After all these years, boxing champion Muhammad Ali remains one of the most charismatic individuals on the face of the Earth. Even though Parkinson’s disease has robbed him of the ability to speak, his presence still has people at their feet and applauding him loudly.
Many movies have been made about his life, but Clare Lewins’ documentary I Am Ali proves to be the most intimate one of them all. Lewins ended up receiving unprecedented access to Ali’s personal archive of audio journals and also conducted interviews with his family and closest friends. Regardless of how many times you have heard the legendary boxer’s life story, this is Ali like you’ve never seen him before.
A couple of weeks back at the film’s press day, I landed an exclusive interview with Muhammad Ali’s two daughters, Maryum and Hana. They were a lot of fun to speak with, as they talked about why Lewins was the right director for this documentary, what it was like to hear themselves on audio at such a young age, and of the influence their father continues to have around the world.
Check it out in the video above and be sure to catch I Am Ali as it’s now playing in theatres everywhere!
