Despite not having had a big hit for the last several years, Keanu Reeves is starting to experience a bit of a comeback. His directorial effort, Man of Tai Chi, did fairly well with audiences and critics alike, and now, he’s riding a wave of positive word of mouth for his newest film, John Wick, which opens in theatres today.
Stepping into the role of a hitman out for revenge, Reeves gives one of his best performances in a long time, effectively embodying the action hero that we knew him as back in the ’90s. Aiding the actor along the way are stylish actions scenes from first time directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, who show a sense of confidence behind the camera as they present thrilling action that’s fluid throughout and never difficult to follow.
Though not perfect, John Wick is one hell of a fun film and I think that audiences are going to be pretty pleased with it. Plus, they definitely leave the door open for a sequel, or even a prequel, so hopefully we’ll be seeing more of the titular hitman in the years to come.
This past week, Reeves, along with his directors, stopped by Toronto for the film’s press day. While there, I landed an exclusive interview with the three of them. We discussed the possibility of returning to this character/world, the challenges of directing your first film, what attracted Reeves to yet another action role and much more.
Check it all out in the video above and be sure to catch John Wick as it shoots its way into theatres today.
