Opening in theaters on August 14th is the new biopic Straight Outta Compton, which tells the true story of groundbreaking hip-hop artists N.W.A.
The film begins in the mid-80s and shows us how five young men from the streets of Compton, California created N.W.A. While surviving police brutality and with the backdrop of the infamous L.A. riots, the group changes hip-hop music forever by taking it from the urban city to suburbs across America. However, success changes all of them and threatens to destroy their friendship and what they’ve created together.
Recently, at the LA press day for Straight Outta Compton, we sat down with Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell for an exclusive interview about their new film. The young actors discussed taking on these iconic roles, the legacy of the N.W.A., why audiences love the Snoop Dog scene, adding a Tupac scene, Easy’s relationship with Jerry Heller and why Suge Knight is like the shark from Jaws.
