The Captive is the latest film from writer/director Atom Egoyan, and it tells the tale of Matthew and Tina, a couple whose happy life is forever shattered when their daughter suddenly vanishes. Eight years later, they come across evidence that suggests she is still alive, and Matthew (Ryan Reynolds) risks everything to find her and bring her back home safely.
It was an absolute pleasure to talk with Egoyan when he was at The Captive press day last week in West Hollywood, California. He was joined there by Scott Speedman, who plays a cop in the film and described the research he did to better understand the type work people do in child exploitation units. Egoyan, on the other hand, explained how he constructed the screenplay and told us why he loves ambiguity so much.
Check out what they had to say in the video above and be sure to catch The Captive as it’s now playing in theatres.
