Mark Wahlberg Confirms He’s No Longer Attached To The Uncharted Movie

It's been a long, bumpy road for the Uncharted movie. The adaptation of the hit video game series has been in development for several years now and still has yet to enter production. Several directors have come and gone (Neil Burger, David O. Russell, Seth Gordon), and so have several actors, but throughout it all, the one name that has always popped up in relation to the lead role of Nathan Drake is Mark Wahlberg.

For the past 5 or so years he’s been attached to the film and rumored to be starring in it, but it seems that he’s now officially taken himself out of the running. Fans already assumed that the actor wouldn’t be involved anymore once Shawn Levy was announced as director, as we’d heard that a new casting search was underway, but during an exclusive interview earlier today to promote his new film Patriots Day, Wahlberg confirmed to us that he’s no longer attached to star in Uncharted.

“As of now, no, I’m not attached,” said the actor.

Of course, just because he’s not attached right now doesn’t mean he won’t get back on board at some point, but we can’t really see that happening. Wahlberg had been circling the role for years and if he’s saying he’s no longer attached, he’s clearly moved on or lost interest in it for some reason, which means he probably won’t return to the project.

It’s a shame, too, as Wahlberg would have made an excellent Nathan Drake. Then again, given how video game adaptations tend to turn out, maybe it’s for the best that he’s not involved anymore. Admittedly, Uncharted is extremely well suited to a feature film, as it’s a very cinematic video game, but given Hollywood’s track record with these types of projects, we can’t help but to feel a bit skeptical about it.
