You have been acting since you were nine years old. How has the transition from being a child actor to becoming an adult actor been for you?
Heather Sossaman: It’s actually been really fun. My parents never really let me dive into it too deeply, and when I got to high school they put the brakes on a little bit and allowed me to concentrate on school. That was fine with me when I was young. I liked being on set when I was younger because it was fun and you got to eat food and hang out. I did Richie Rich one time and I had a crush on the boy. It was just really fun when I was little but I didn’t think of it as a career. When I got to the later years of high school I was like, “Hey that’s something I miss doing and that’s what I want to get back into.” My parents were very supportive and in my senior of high school I took it back up and went from there. It’s been a transition because I think it was more difficult than I thought it would be.
When you took a break from acting you ended up visiting 16 countries, right? Which country did you enjoy visiting the most?
Heather Sossaman: I think Italy has always been my favorite country. I don’t know what it is but I just really love Italy and I’ve been back a lot. But then at the same time I got to see some really cool things. I got to go to Israel and see the pyramids in Egypt, and I just did things that I never thought I would get to do. It also really changed me when I got back to Los Angeles and started acting again. I had a new form of concentration and a new perspective on life when I got back.
You appeared in a couple of movies before doing Unfriended, but this is your first wide theatrical release. How do you feel about that?
Heather Sossaman: I am ecstatic. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I’ve done a lot of things that I’m really proud of, but Unfriended is just this kind of phenomenon and at the same time so is Laura Barns. It’s really interesting and at the same time rewarding to see fans emailing and wanting to talk to me and I love that. I’m open to talking to anybody, so I’m just having a lot of fun with it.
Honestly, I’m just enjoying it because I’ve wanted to be at this place for a long time. I had a couple of films come out last year like 10.0 (Earthquake) which is an earthquake movie and it’s in LA, and I did Desecrated with Haylie Duff and some other really awesome actors. But Unfriended is really unique and I knew that from the first time that I got the script for it and heard about it. I was really excited to be a part of it.
There are already rumors that there may be sequels to Unfriended. Is there a possibility we will see Laura Barns again in the future?
Heather Sossaman: Well I think Laura Barns is slowly becoming kind of a staple character to the whole Unfriended thing, so I certainly hope so. I think that it all depends on how well the fans respond and continue to respond. I think it’s a great possibility but at the same time now it’s up to all those guys. I don’t know for sure, but I would know that I would be on board.
This concludes our interview, but we would like to thank Heather for taking the time to talk with us. Be sure to check out Unfriended as it’s now in theatres!
