Elizabeth Olsen Talks Avengers: Infinity War
So Avengers: Infinity War is coming up and we just got a new poster for it, which features Scarlet Witch alongside Vision. Can we expect that budding romance to be explored further in this next film?
Elizabeth Olsen: In any other world I would say, “I don’t know,” but because there are paparazzi photos that kind of spoil things for fans – I think it’s safe to say that we now get to explore that part of the comic book. We get to introduce and explore their relationship. It creates a really exciting arc for me and I’m so lucky I get to work with (Paul) Bettany all the time now.
Avengers: Infinity War is this huge culmination bringing multiple storylines together from over ten years of films. Did it feel like that on set? Obviously, there’s going to be more movies to come, but did it feel like at least part of this journey was coming to a definitive end?
Elizabeth Olsen: I guess so. I don’t know. Honestly, even Chris Evans only gets to see his own script pages and if we wanted to read the script we’d have to sit in the office and have someone watch us read it. They’ve explained to us what’s happening. A lot of times people find out what happens at the end of the movie when we start filming it, but here, no one knows before. You can tell that they’re really precious with information and it makes it feel very important and top secret and it makes me really excited to see what’s in store for the other characters.
This is the third full film that you’re appearing in as Wanda Maximoff. As you go work on other roles, does it feel like coming home when you come back to work on another Marvel movie?
Elizabeth Olsen: Yeah, it does. It’s something that I genuinely look forward to when I know it’s coming up every other year. It’s a world and a part that I now feel like I have a much better handle on. It’s a group of people I want to continue working with. It’s a character that I get to continue to adapt and change.
The thing that I’m most appreciative of is that the writers, Feige and the directors have always used Wanda in intelligent ways where I always feel like I have something to work with. That I’m not just taking up space. I’ve been lucky. I don’t know if everyone feels that way but I do feel they always give me a nice arc to work with.
That concludes our interview, but many thanks to Elizabeth Olsen for her time. Be sure to catch Wind River, in theaters now!
