Will Robert Pattinson’s The Rover Be One Of Cannes’ Biggest Hits?

A brief plot synopsis would tell you that The Rover is a film set in a dystopian Australian outback. Like Mad Max. It would also divulge that the main character is a loner, trailing the Aussie deserts in a bitter conflict with a brazen gang of car thieves. Like Mad Max.

Of course, this would all be conjecture if we didn’t have something to go on, something substantial. So feast your eyes on the first clip below. The small snippet of footage is truly a testament to what has already been said, showcasing Guy Pearce as he revels in a state of malice, locked in an existential debate with a broad Texan Robert Pattinson. From this clip alone, you can rest assured that the latter can actually act. As was hinted with Cosmopolis, Pattinson has finally brought his A-game to the table (at least for one minute of seen footage) and holds his own against the powerhouse performance skills of his co-star.

With all this being said, we simply cannot wait for The Rover to finally hit cinemas. With Animal Kingdom, David Michôd really struck gold for the Australian film industry and, hopefully, will make it two-for-two with this film. With the ever-reliable Guy Pearce on-board, and Robert Pattinson finally beginning to flex his dramatic muscles, we can at least feel cautiously optimistic for another tense, nerve-shredding study of the human condition led by a wonderful acting collective.

Needless to say, we’re pretty damn excited.
