2016’s Deadpool was already full of hilarious easter eggs and pop culture jokes, but Deadpool 2 goes above and beyond the pale. With the benefit of being the sequel to a smash hit success, it was able to bring several key names on board who turned up for cameos. Likewise, some of the film’s crew show up for blink-and-you’ll-miss-it roles as well.
But who are all these cameos we speak of? Well, assuming there aren’t still more to uncover, here are all of the ones to keep your eye out for in the film. Some of them you’ll definitely have spotted, while others might have been harder to discern.
Either way, here’s who we’ve picked out:
The X-Men – Just when Deadpool’s ranting about the fact that he only ever sees Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead at the X-Mansion, it’s revealed that the X-Men are actually all stuffed into a room behind him. When they see DP outside, though, they close the door quietly, leaving Wade oblivious. Those glimpsed in this scene are Professor X (James McAvoy), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan).
Brad Pitt – One of Deadpool’s X-Force team members is The Vanisher, who always appears invisible. When he jumps out of a plane and lands on a phone cable, however, he’s revealed to be played by none other than Brad Pitt, who’s only glimpsed on screen for a second before the character dies.
Matt Damon and Alan Tudyk – Pitt isn’t the only Hollywood royalty who appears in Deadpool 2. In the scene where Cable arrives in the past, he encounters two rednecks discussing the relative merits of toilet paper. The more talkative one is Matt Damon, while his friend is played by Alan Tudyk (Rogue One).
David Leitch – Yes, director David Leitch gave himself a cameo in his own movie. During the scene where Cable hijacks the prison truck in order to kill Firefist, Leitch can be glimpsed as one of the mutant inmates.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – Likewise, screenwriters Reese and Wernick also turn up in Deadpool 2. When Shatterstar’s torn to shreds by helicopter blades, the pilot and news cameraman who end up getting splatted with the X-Forcer’s innards are played by the two scribes.
Wolverine – No, Deadpool 2 doesn’t exactly give us that dream Wolverine/DP crossover, but it does find a way to include Logan without actually getting Hugh Jackman to film new footage. First, the character appears via a gruesome music box in the movie’s opening scene. In the brilliant post-credits sequence, meanwhile, stock footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine is used to make it appear like Deadpool’s interacting with the character.
And finally… Ryan Reynolds – Yes, Ryan Reynolds is in Deadpool 2 all the way through ’cause he’s the titular Merc, but the actor also appears as himself in the final post-credits scene as well. Just when Reynolds has decided to accept the part of DC’s Green Lantern, DP travels back in time and kills him to prevent that atrocity from ever happening.
If you’re wondering what happened to Marvel cameo king Stan Lee, well, a mural of the beloved comic book creator does appear on the side of a building at one stage – but that’s all we get. Unfortunately, he doesn’t show up in the flesh at any point in the film.
