Anyone who saw this year’s 300: Rise of an Empire would probably agree that the film wouldn’t have been nearly as fun without Eva Green’s voluptuous, promiscuous femme fatale Artemisia. Luckily for filmgoers, Rise of an Empire wasn’t a one-off; Green has made a name for herself playing similarly sultry seductresses, appearing as sorceress Morgan le Fay in Starz’s short-lived Camelot series and as sexy spellcaster Angelique in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. However, she’ll be taking on her biggest bombshell role yet this summer, when she appears as the titular character in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Now, the most risqué tease we’ve seen for the sequel thus far has set off some alarms over at the MPAA… which is why I imagine the marketing team submitted it in the first place.
The image in question, which you can check out in its full, possibly not-safe-for-work glory below, highlights Green’s character in a sheer nightgown, holding a smoking gun. The MPAA specifically voiced its disapproval “for nudity—curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.” Not that anyone who will be lining up for this film cares what the MPAA thinks anyhow. The marketing team for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For definitely found a striking, appealing image in this shot of Green, so something tells me it will popping up in quite a few theaters before the film’s August release.
In A Dame to Kill For, Green plays Ava Lord, a former lover of protagonist Dwight McCarthy (played by Josh Brolin this time around, seeing as the version of the character played by Clive Owen in Sin City had undergone facial reconstructive surgery). In her segment of the film, titled “A Dame to Kill For,” Ava calls upon Dwight to help her escape an abusive marriage. However, Dwight soon realizes that Ava’s intentions are far from pure.
Other stories in A Dame to Kill For include “Just Another Saturday Night,” which finds Marv (Mickey Rourke) waking up on a highway, surrounded by corpses; “The Long Bad Night,” about a cocky gambler (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who falls for a stripper (Julia Garner) and is targeted by the city’s biggest crooks; and “The Fat Loss,” which centers on Jessica Alba’s Nancy Callahan avenging the death of her protector John Hartigan (Bruce Willis).
All in all, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For should be one hell of a good time. Look for it when it opens August 22nd.
