Having been a fan of Ghostbusters since early childhood, you can imagine that seeing a proper third entry into the franchise has been on my wishlist since 1989. Unfortunately, nothing came to fruition in that regard, though a reboot somehow came together in short order following Harold Ramis’ passing a few years back. As fate would have it, the new take on the concept wasn’t received all that well, therefore any plans for a followup were scrapped.
Then, something wondrous happened when a teaser for a flick set within the originally established universe dropped online a couple of months ago. Because of there being such an elaborate presentation, I’m guessing the Jason Reitman-directed threequel had been secretly gestating for some time.
Naturally, moviegoers have assumed that the three surviving members of the gang – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson – would reprise their iconic roles. And though there’s been some back and forth in this regard, it looks like we can finally confirm one gentleman from that triumvirate.
Strangely enough, this comes to us via the announcement of Ernie Hudson appearing as a guest star on the hit TV series Arrow, wherein Deadline said the following:
“Known for his portrayal of Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise, Hudson will reprise the role in Ghostbusters 3.”
That’s not much to go on, sure, but it’s certainly enough to get us geeked. Hopefully it won’t be much longer before other co-stars are officially named because again, I can’t be the only one who’s been waiting forever for this project to come together.
On the plus side, we can tell you that Ghostbusters 3 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 10th, 2020. Given that, it shouldn’t be much longer before the cast is rounded out and cameras begin rolling. As always, keep watching this space as more develops.
