We’re little over a month away now from the closing chapter in Bilbo Baggins’ story and to help keep ardent Tolkien fans on the edge of their seats, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have unveiled an epic new trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
If this latest trailer marks the crescendo of the film’s extensive marketing campaign — one that encompassed a hoard of character posters, banners and the irk — then it’s quite a remarkable one. Teasing the titular, defining conflict, the footage showcases the remaining Men, Dwarves and Elves who must face a common enemy: the marauding Sauron. Sending forth legions of malicious Orcs, Biblio, Gandalf and Co. must do everything in their power to protect the Lonely Mountain.
Should The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies deliver on its promise in regard to the closing battle — a fight that is set to span a full 45 minutes — then the Middle Earth finale could be placed on Peter Jackson’s pantheon alongside the war at Helm’s Deep and the battle of the Pelenoor Fields. For now, we can only wait patiently until next month.
The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies will march into theaters on December 17th, 2014.
“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
