The impressive ensemble for Sony’s Men in Black spinoff has grown by one today, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the inimitable Emma Thompson is back to reprise her role as Agent 0 from the ill-fated MIB 3.
She joins another Thompson on the cast sheet (Thor: Ragnarok‘s Tessa), which also includes Liam Neeson, Rafe Spall and Kumail Nanjiani. Front and center is MCU veteran Chris Hemsworth as an agent tasked with defending the galaxy from all sorts of alien nasties. Thompson, meanwhile – Tessa, not Emma – plays the newest member of the team hoping to leave an impression on her superiors, one of which is Emma Thompson’s Agent O, who was essentially pulling the strings behind the famous alien-policing organization during Men in Black 3.
The plan here is to relaunch the franchise on a global scale, with serious star power to boot. Most of the other details are locked away in the Sony vaults, but we imagine it’ll contain a familiar blend of comedy and end-of-the-world action.
If nothing else, it’ll no doubt extract another hilarious performance from Chris Hemsworth, who impressed audiences the world over with the back-to-back release of Ghostbusters and the aforementioned Ragnarok.
He’s in good company, too, as Emma Thompson is merely the latest (and perhaps final?) big name to join the Men in Black cast. Filming is already underway in the United Kingdom, where F. Gary Gray is directing from a script penned by Iron Man duo Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The movie will be in cinemas on June 14th, 2019 – not long after Hemsworth’s other blockbuster, Avengers 4.
