Does Emma Stone Know What Will Happen To Gwen Stacy In The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Clearly the cast and crew of The Amazing Spider-Man and it's sequel, were aware that using Gwen Stacy as the female lead in the new film series would eventually garner such implications. If she were to untimely fall off a bridge to her death, hopefully it will both honor her character and weave into the plot correctly somehow. But seeing as how Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone had such immense chemistry the first time around (not to mention their off screen relationship too), could the sequel afford to get rid of her?

It’s common for actors to play coy with the public regarding the fates of the characters they are portraying, especially if a movie is still in the very early stages of development, but it seems Emma Stone actually has no idea what will happen to Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In a recent interview with MTV News, her dumbfounded response on whether she’ll perish or not in the sequel obviously had no straight answer.

“Will she? Is it up to you? Did you write the script? Did you ghost-write the script?” said Stone.

Her annoyance with revealing such a key plot point is understandable, but her mocking retort was a little out of her comfort zone. Now, sarcasm is a skill the actress is keenly known for, but here it appears to be used as a defense mechanism instead of a witty quip.

Regardless of how you interpret Stone’s cryptic quote, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release in May of 2014, which is still a ways to go. But rumors are rumors, and the early casting choices of Shailene Woodley and Dane DeHaan playing Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn, suggests a certain plan is in motion, one that obviously will have an impact on Gwen.

Speaking of conspicuous character additions, why would Electro be the villain in a movie where Stacy dies? Making adjustments to famous comic book storylines is fine- if the changes work for the film’s benefit – but this would be an insult towards the Green Goblin’s legacy as a villain. His evil actions in the story arc The Night Gwen Stacy Died, lead to what is still regarded as the most monumental character death in comic book history.
