Late last year, we heard that Emily Blunt was being eyed for the titular role in Disney’s Mary Poppins reboot. Nothing was confirmed, but now it appears as if the deal has gone through.

THR is reporting that the actress is in final negotiations to join the project, which will re-team her with her Into the Woods director, Rob Marshall. Scripting the film is Life of Pi writer David Magee, with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman writing the songs.

In terms of the direction that the House of Mouse is looking to head in with this version of their classic film, it’s said that the new Mary Poppins will be a sequel/reboot, as it’s set to take place twenty years after the original. The script will also take cues from P.L. Travers’ book series.

No word yet on a production start date, but with Blunt now on board, expect things to get moving quickly on Mary Poppins.
