Ever since she was added to the cast last year, Star Wars fans have been eagerly awaiting any reveals about Emilia Clarke’s mystery role in the Han Solo prequel. The Game of Thrones actress has made sure to choose her words carefully in interviews, with practically the only comment she’s made about the character being: “All I can say is that she’s awesome.” Now, however, we might’ve just discovered her name.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Michael K. Williams – who also revealed that he’s been cut from the movie – briefly mentioned that his character had “a link between Han Solo and Emilia’s character, Kira.” This quote was then picked up by Making Star Wars, who claim that their sources have informed them that the individual Clarke’s playing is named “Kura” instead. While the spelling differs, the fact that a similar name comes from two different sources – one definitely involved with the film – suggests that this is a reliable piece of info.
Something else makes us believe that Kira is the correct name here, too. During pre-production on The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley’s Rey was originally named Kira, so it seems possible that Clarke’s character was named in honour of Rey’s original moniker. Maybe this was even deliberately chosen to place a connection between the two? Yes, we’re suggesting yet another theory about Rey’s parents.
Han Solo is directed by Ron Howard and stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Woody Harrelson, among many others. It’s expected to continue filming for the next two or three months before it arrives in cinemas on May 25th 2018, so don’t expect to learn anything official about Clarke’s character for a while. This new report though is certainly interesting and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if it turns out to be on the money.
