We reported yesterday on three new additions to Oliver Stone’s Savages. John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Blake Lively all signed on. We also told you that the already stellar cast wasn’t complete yet and Stone was still looking for a few more actors. What we didn’t know was how quickly he’d find them. Today though Variety tells us that Stone has found the next piece of his puzzle in Emile Hirsch, who has been noticeably absent from the big screen as of late. As for his role in the film, there’s no word on it yet but if you’ve read the book (Don Winslow’s bestselling novel of the same name) that the film is based on, you can probably narrow it down.
Aside from Travolta, Thurman and Lively, Hirsch will join Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Salma Hayek and Benicio Del Toro. Like I said, stellar cast. The film centres on Kitsch’s and Johnson’s characters who are two best friends that are marijuana growers who get in serious trouble with the cartel. Blake Lively will play their girlfriend and Uma Thurman will play her mom. Hayek and Del Toro will play members of the cartel and finally, Travolta will take on the role of a DEA agent.
With filming set to begin in July, I’m sure we’ll hear about additional casting choices soon enough. And when we do, we’ll let you know. As for Hirsch though, I’m very happy to see him join an already wonderful cast. Like I mentioned before, Hirsch hasn’t been on the big screen for a while and to see him again, especially in an Oliver Stone movie will be great. He’s a very talented young actor and his film Into The Wild is one of my favorites.
Hirsch does have a couple projects lined up before Savages though. He’s got an indie film called Killer Joe, a blockbuster called The Darkest Hour and The Motel Life which he’s filming with Stephen Dorff. So it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of Hirsch in the next year or so.
