Though James Gunn is back on board, details on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are still thin on the ground at the moment as the writer/director’s busy with The Suicide Squad over at DC. There’s a lot we can guess about the threequel from the teases in Vol. 2, though. One of those being that Adam Warlock must be about to make his MCU debut in the movie.
A new report might actually confirm this is the case, too, in a tangential kind of way. In their write-up of the actress joining the cast of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, The Geeks Worldwide (along with other outlets) claim that Elizabeth Debicki is locked in for Guardians 3. If you’ll recall, she played Ayesha, queen of the Sovereign, in the sequel and one of the film’s many post-credits scenes featured her declaring that she’ll create a perfect creature to destroy the Guardians. “I think I’ll call him… Adam,” she says.
If Debicki’s returning, that presumably means this tease is going somewhere and Adam’s going to turn up in the movie. The GWW’s report also supports what Gunn himself said back in 2017. Though this would’ve been before his script for the third picture was complete, the filmmaker said “I absolutely plan on bringing Elizabeth Debicki back” to IGN at the time.
As you surely know, rumors have pointed to Zac Efron being eyed to play Adam, something fans have gotten behind as well (see the artwork above, for example). That said, the threequel would be a very crowded film if all of the rumored characters appeared in it – the likes of Beta Ray Bill, Quasar, Moondragon, Lylla and Thor have been linked with the movie, too. Still, the bulk of evidence points towards Adam finally getting his due in the franchise, and we can’t wait to see him show up.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could go before cameras as early as next year, meaning it might hit cinemas by 2021. As always, stay tuned for more.
