Elizabeth Banks Reveals Plot Details For Pitch Perfect 2

Back in 2012, Pitch Perfect swept in as the little movie that could. It surprised critics and audiences with its sharp wit, wry characterizations and show-stopping musical numbers. All in all, it did what few musical rom-coms do. It hit every nail on the head and brought in sufficient enough returns at the box office to warrant a sequel. However, with production having wrapped on Pitch Perfect 2, there's still scant details about the flick.

However, with production having wrapped on Pitch Perfect 2, there’s still scant details about the flick.

Elizabeth Banks, whose small role as a commentator at the acapella competitions was a major highlight of the first movie, climbed aboard to direct the follow-up. Speaking to Yahoo! about the film, she let a modicum of deets slip. When prompted to divulge any information on Beca (Anna Kendrick) and Jesse (Skylar Astin)’s union (they hooked up in the closing moments of the original), she replied:

“I won’t say anything about that relationship, but the girls are now graduating seniors. They’re coming to the end of their time as Bellas and figuring out how to sort of leave the next and the comfort of each other’s friendship and figure out what they’re going to do with the rest of their lives.”

We know that most of the cast are back reprising their roles. As well as Banks, Kendrick and Astin, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Ben Platt, Adam DeVine, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, and John Michael Higgins are all back for more comedic vocal shenanigans. But that’s not all. Confirming cameo rumours about some real-life acapella groups appearing, Banks offered this enthusiastic response:

Some great, true acapella groups like Pentatonix and the Filharmonic, Penn Masala, I can confirm are all in the movie and they’re amazing. They do all their own singing and dancing. It’s all about authenticity in the acapella world. We really want to honor that and honor the people who are really doing it out there who we’re inspired by when we make the movie.

Consider us aca-excited (ahem) for Pitch Perfect 2, which is scheduled to open in theatres May 15th, 2015.
