There’s spy action abound in the latest and all-too-brief promo for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Matthew Vaughn’s dapper sequel in which Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) plot course for America – the mountains of Kentucky, to be specific – in order to strike up an uneasy alliance with their American counterpart.
We are, of course, referring to the Statesman, a top-secret organization of larger-than-life agents that’s all housed up inside a rather ostentatious whiskey distillery high up in the mountains. Doing good on last week’s Old Forester-themed featurette, up above you’ll see Eggsy and Merlin raising a glass, only to discover that the secret whereabouts of Statesman HQ is hiding in plain sight. And so, following a quick hop across the pond, Egerton and Strong’s sharp-suited leads come into contact with three primary agents: Channing Tatum (Tequila), Jeff Bridges (Champagne) and Pedro Pascal (Jack Daniels). We’re beginning to sense a pattern emerging here…
Regardless, those squabbling characters will soon set aside old differences in the face of Julianne Moore’s Poppy, an evil megalomaniac hell-bent on world domination. Indeed, if the original Kingsman presented Samuel L. Jackson’s Valentine as a James Bond villain on steroids, we can hardly wait to see what Matthew Vaughn and Co. have in store for Poppy, the “American sweetheart gone horribly wrong.”
Kingsman: The Golden Circle shoots for theaters on September 22nd, and Matthew Vaughn is already thinking further afield. Just prior to the launching the original movie in 2014, the director spoke candidly about his hopes for a sequel – one which he drafted alongside co-writer Jane Goldman and Mark Millar – so there’s every chance Fox will lend him a chance to complete the trilogy with Kingsman 3 sometime in the not-so-distant future.
