Dwayne Johnson Is Up Against Mother Nature In First Official Stills From San Andreas

Before going toe-to-toe with Jason Statham in Furious 7 or joining the sprawling DC universe as Black Adam, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has quite the threat blocking his path: mother nature. For in Warner Bros.' upcoming disaster film San Andreas, the wrestler-turned-movie star will be caught amidst a monumental earthquake -- dubbed The Big One -- that hits Los Angeles, separating him and his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) from their estranged daughter.

Before going toe-to-toe with Jason Statham in Furious 7 or joining the sprawling DC universe as Black Adam, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has quite the threat blocking his path: mother nature. For in Warner Bros.’ upcoming disaster film San Andreas, the wrestler-turned-movie star will be caught amidst a monumental earthquake — dubbed The Big One — that hits Los Angeles, separating him and his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) from their estranged daughter.

And today, we’ve been treated to our first official look at the upcoming epic, and Johnson took some time to speak to USA Today about the massive, earth-shattering scope of the film and its emotional core.

“There’s nothing that I don’t pilot or drive. We utilize everything we can to get there.  This has big stakes. It’s entertaining and also has heart. It all goes down. The damage, destruction, the loss of lives. Everything that you know on the West Coast doesn’t see tomorrow.”

Directed by Brad Peyton — the creative mind behind Johnson’s family-friendly Journey series — San Andreas will essentially anchor the destruction that hits the West Coast against a family drama, as Johnson searches desperately for his missing daughter (played here by True Detective starlet, Alexandra Daddario).

We’ll learn much more about the tone and scale of San Andreas — can it possibly outdo Roland Emmerich? — when the first official trailer makes its bow online tomorrow.

Our richter scale indicates that San Andreas will rumble into theaters on May 29, 2015. Until then, you can check out Johnson and Co. in action in the gallery below.
