It’s strange to think that the casting of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam was announced back in 2014, almost two years before the DCEU had even released its second entry. Cut the present day, when the comic book universe is seven movies strong, and we’re still waiting to see The Rock portray the popular supervillain. But until the Fast and Furious star finally takes the character in front of cameras, we have this new fan poster from BossLogic, which lets us imagine how Johnson might look as Teth-Adam.
“I said it first,” reads the tagline of the recently shared artwork, presumably in reference to the fact that Adam had the powers of Shazam long before Billy Batson did. As he holds up a defeated-looking Superman (head covered, just like in his Shazam! cameo), Adam stares out from the darkness of his hood, while the text at the bottom simply reads, “Coming Soon.”
Though it’s been an exceptionally long wait for Johnson to make his DCEU debut, the actor just recently announced via Instagram that the Black Adam solo movie should start filming “in about a year,” making a 2021 release seem likely at this point.
In the meantime, Shazam! took in a not-too-shabby $53 million domestically over the weekend, suggesting that Warner Bros. will likely be pushing forward with their sequel plans. While the post-credits of Billy Batson’s solo movie seemed to imply that Mister Mind and the Monster Society of Evil will be the next big villains of the series, it’s surely only a matter of time before Black Adam and Shazam cross paths. But first, Johnson is returning to cinemas with the release of Hobbs & Shaw on August 2nd.
