Empire has today lifted the lid on an all-new action shot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which features Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) armed and dangerous.
Hailing from the outlet’s impending April issue, one which features Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman adorning the cover, you’ll be able to go up close and personal with two of James Gunn’s gun-toting Guardians – along with a sneak peek at Kurt Russell’s Ego – via the gallery below. Given how secretive Marvel has been when it comes to the actual story of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it’s difficult to pinpoint how this scene factors into the plot. Perhaps it’s pulled from the moment when Star-Lord and Co. attempt to rescue Nebula (Karen Gillan) from the clutches of Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha? Time will tell.
When asked what fans can expect going into the release of Guardians 2, Chris Pratt teased a familiar, yet wildly entertaining experience.
“You can expect to see everything you loved in the first movie, but you’re also going to… but it… oh, I should rephrase that. Don’t expect to see everything you saw in the first movie. But expect to be charmed and thrilled and entertained like you were watching the first movie.”
Pratt was then quizzed about his experience acting alongside the great Kurt Russell, who stars as Peter Quill’s father, Ego, the Living Planet. First off, Pratt had nothing but praise for his co-star, stating that the process of playing Russell Jr. was “humbling and exceptional. He’s surpassed any expectation I could have had.” If you’re curious to see how James Gunn plans to incorporate a humanoid version of Ego into Guardians 2, a new image from Toyark (via /Film) ought to give you an exciting preview of Russell’s Ego as he’ll appear in the upcoming Marvel sequel.
On May 5th, James Gunn and Co. will launch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 into theaters. Buoyed by internal test screenings in which GotG Vol. 2 scored off the charts, excitement for the team’s next adventure is understandably through the roof, and we can fully expect much more information to surface between now and release.
