Community and Spider-Man: Homecoming star Donald Glover has been cast as the young Lando Calrissian in Disney’s Han Solo anthology movie.
News hails from the official Star Wars Twitter feed, confirming earlier reports that Lucasfilm had placed Glover high on their wanted list for the coveted part. He’ll join Alden Ehrenreich in the 2018 spinoff, who was unveiled as the galaxy’s new roguish smuggler during Star Wars Celebration some months ago. Interestingly, the official word from Disney’s account indicates that the origin story is still without a title, though given it’s being prepped to enter production soon after the turn of the year, we should have an official title before long.
[zergpaid]Indeed, the addition of Glover could be a sign of Disney’s casting spree beginning to gather speed, after a report suggested that Tessa Thompson, Naomi Scott and Zoe Kravitz were all testing for the film’s female lead. No development on that front just yet, but it’s clear the Han Solo movie is finally beginning to come together at the Mouse House.
Regardless, news that Donald Glover has secured the part of young Lando is very exciting indeed. Though he’s famed for playing the loveable Troy all across Community, there’s a real cool factor to Glover – no thanks to his career as Childish Gambino – that ought to make him the perfect fit for the part.
