It seems that Avengers 4 co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo have been having so much fun trolling fans with teases for next year’s release that Don Cheadle thought he’d get in on the action, too.
James “Rhodey” Rhodes was among the few surviving heroes at the end of Avenges: Infinity War, meaning that the actor could have a major part to play in the upcoming sequel. But when a fan asked the Cheadle via Twitter if he’d be willing to offer any hints on the title of this highly anticipated release, the star made a point of being as unhelpful as possible.
“i shouldn’t do this, but because i love you all so much i’ll give you a hint. the title will incorporate letters that will be organized in a coherent fashion with the express purpose of communicating to the consumer the content of the film. (i’m i’m so much trouble…)”
There’s a reason why this post didn’t come with a spoiler warning.
As cheeky as Cheadle’s comment was, the Russo Brothers have been sending much bigger ripples through the internet in the last month by uploading some mysterious images to their social media accounts. A few days ago, for instance, the filmmaking duo tweeted an overly bright photo of an unknown object that’s invited a range of theories, as well as plenty of plenty of fan frustration directed at the Russos for messing with us once more.
As for what the movie’s title could be, these last few months have offered many a suggestion. Most recently, Avengers: Annihilation has been deemed a frontrunner in some circles, though Mark Ruffalo added a fresh twist to the speculation when he blurted out The Last Avenger earlier this month on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
There’s a good chance that the title will be unveiled simultaneously with the flick’s first trailer, though when exactly that will be remains yet another mystery. One thing we can be pretty sure of, however, is that Avengers 4 will be coming to theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
