Doctor Strange Confirmed For A Thor: Ragnarok Appearance

Given the events of the mid-credits scene in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange, it wasn't much of a stretch to think that the Sorcerer Supreme might have a role in Thor: Ragnarok. That's because it featured the God of Thunder stopping by the Sanctum Sanctorum to ask Strange for some help. Plus, with how popular Cumberbatch has proven to be in the role, we imagine Marvel would want to use him as much as they can going forward, as he'll eventually join the Avengers in time for Infinity War.

While future appearances for the character have remained mostly under the speculation category for the past few months, we can now file one of them under confirmed. According to D23, the Master of the Mystic Arts will indeed have a role in Thor: Ragnarok, as they tell us that the threequel “brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new.” This may not be confirmation straight from the studio itself, but given that D23 is the official Disney fan club, there’s no reason to doubt the report.

Though not surprising in the slightest (in fact, it’d be more shocking if he didn’t appear in the film), this is still exciting news. More of Benedict Cumberbatch can only be a good thing and while we imagine his role in Ragnarok won’t be very large, fans will no doubt appreciate him showing up. In all likelihood, he’ll only have a quick scene or two, but there is, of course, a chance that he’ll actually get in on some of the action and possibly help Thor and the Hulk out in a battle.

After all, the report from D23 says that he’ll be joining the otwo Avengers to “face off against intergalactic baddies” – so who knows? Time will tell, but we’re certainly looking forward to seeing more of the Sorcerer Supreme later this year.
