Barring a cameo appearance in, say, Thor: Ragnarok, Benedict Cumberbatch’s next turn as the Sorcerer Supreme will likely be reserved for Avengers: Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo’s jam-packed blockbuster that’s been slated for 2018.
It’s something that the Doctor Strange actor is tremendously excited for, too, which he revealed while speaking to Screen Rant in anticipation of the film’s North American release on November 4. Cumberbatch isn’t one to slip up during interviews or divulge more than he’s allowed to, so don’t expect to find anything tangible regarding Infinity War and Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; instead, the British thesp skates around his history with the MCU, and what it was like to don that Cloak of Levitation as Strange.
First up, here’s what Cumberbatch had to say when quizzed about Stephen Stranger’s view on the Avengers:
That will—it’s a good fish—but that will play out. I’m sure we’ll get to see that in the future. And not too distant future, he will be back. No, I’m gonna be in the Avengers films, which is a phenomenally exciting thing for me. I mean, I came to comics through the film, so I’ve been buying my ticket for the last eight years, and now I’m on the other side of the screen. It’s very, very exciting. And I can’t wait to see who I get to jam with. It’s gonna be great.
As for which member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes he’s most excited to share the screen with, the actor remained tight-lipped, stating, “all of them. Really, all of them. And instead of making the joke of listing all of them, I would just say, all of them.”
It’s already off to a strong start overseas, and fans can look forward to Doctor Strange opening in North America and China on November 4. For more coverage, be sure to check in with Matt Donato’s review of the MCU origin story.
